Concert Fun

I’m supposed to be studying for an exam right now but I’m procrastinating, so I’ll write my first blog post in many months. (I decided to start part-time distance studies this year because I’m not nearly busy enough…a story for another day).

Today Penny and I attended a concert for Splash N Boots. To say Penny was excited would be an understatement – she’s been asking for the concert for months and was so upset when it was postponed back in August. She was very excited to go until we actually had to walk into the building, and then she was unsure. But she cuddled into me and she did it and I was super proud of her.

I was a bit iffy bringing her somewhere myself.  She’s much quicker than me, and much more agile, but I bought tickets near the wall so she wouldn’t be able to escape as quickly. When we got there and Penny was exploring her space, I let the kind mom in front of us know that Penny may kick her seat and apologised in advance. The bright side of going to a place with all parents was that I wasn’t as nervous about that. (I did try to keep the kicking her seat to a minimum though, I know that can be annoying).

During the concert, Boots went around asking people what they’ve done that was brave. The kids would raise their hand and if Boots picked them, they would speak their story into the microphone and the whole audience would tell them they were brave. When Penny noticed that the kids who put their hands up would get to be up close and personal with Boots, she was delighted. So, when Boots was coming down the aisle towards us, she shot her hand in the air. Boots picked her and Penny sprinted out of her seat and across the aisle (with me in quick pursuit – sorry to anyone I may have bumped).

Penny took Boots by the hand and Boots asked her name. Penny just blew into the microphone…and checked out Boot’s outfit.

(I told her Penny’s name).

Boots asked her what she did that was brave…and Penny blew into the microphone.

Boots was so kind and asked if her brave thing was raising her hand at the concert, and Penny, you guessed it…blew into the microphone. So the whole room told her she was brave and Penny very, very, very hesitantly let go of Boots’ hand and sat back down.

She gives zero shits, but my face was red as a beet standing in front of a whole audience. We were only 5 rows from the front!

Penny was then very upset that she never got to meet Splash. As we were leaving she was yelling “Boots AND Splash!”. Next time I will know to buy VIP tickets so she can meet them after the show.

Altogether it was very cute and I highly recommend going out of your comfort zone in taking your kids to things. If it doesn’t work out, at least they tried.

Was it ideal? No.

Did we spend the last 15 minutes next to the stage because Penny was trying to get up on stage? Yes.

But she had fun and I’m absorbing some of her “I don’t care what people think” attitude.

…mostly.
